Maybe not a movie you need to see more than once, but riveting and unforgettable while it lasts. Steve McQueen is an outstanding talent.

It is filled with pure raw emotion. It’s realistic and horrifying depiction of the American slave trade is hair raising. The acting is superb, especially the actors which portrayed Solomon and the owner of the second plantation. This movie is colour graded beautifully and is scored with tenderness and gracefulness. It is a true masterpiece and succeeds in telling its tale of sorrow and hope.

Great film but probably not as in depth and revolutionary as it ad first seemed to audiences. Visceral in parts and a really powerful performance from Lupita Nyongo helps make this film memorable

A very important film. Hard to watch but made in a raw and honest way that gives you an unflinching look at one of humanity's greatest crimes

12 Years a Slave is one of the most popular, extremely important, and very best movies of 2013 that has us remembering the hard & painful times where the US South was at the most cruel! The objective of our characters carry so much value, a free man trying to regain freedom feels very real, it’s hard and can’t imagine what the man went through! Widespread critical acclaim go out to the direction, screenplay, setting, themes, and the performances (particularly Ejiofor, Fassbender, and Nyong’o)!

I had read the book first, which is his firsthand account, and it was much more fulfilling. The performances were overblown and I don’t think anyone should have won an Oscar for it certainly. Just so so.
