One of the only horror movies over 2 hours long that feels like it needs to be that length... It Chapter 2, take notes.

Do I really need to explain how perfect this film is. While at first viewing it may be difficult to digest the film’s subliminal storytelling as there is clearly more than meets the eye. It took a few viewings for me to truly recognize that the Shining is a perfect film. It does not engage in any typical horror cliches. Kubrick conquered just about every genre including horror with this. Nicholson’s performance alone makes this an instant classic. Obviously you have to go see this movie.

The Shining of one of the very best movies of 1980 (1981 if I’m wrong) and one of the most popular horror films to revolutionize scary mental health and the use of blood and trauma! This story is so connected in a way where everything seems to be calm and humble but things transition well to a much believable sense that nothing really is what it seems! Widespread critical acclaim go out to the direction, screenplay, suspense, original score, cinematography, twists/turns, and Nicholson‘s acting!!

Far inferior to the novel, as well as the 1990s TV movie/miniseries which was more what King wanted. To me, the novel leaves the space for the possibility that maybe none of it is actually happening - that it is in the mind of one of the three .... and that serves as a way for the plot to be seen as a deeper metaphor for the different internal struggles of psyche and mental illness. To me, it is a stronger story with it all being the manifestations of internal struggle.
