A largely solid series effort that takes some chances and is made by people who love and respect the late Wes Craven’s series, but borrow too much from the old films. The new cast give good performances by and large, but veteran David Arquette is the highlight. The film stumbles when genre savvy cast members still continue to do dumb stuff, and its commentary on fandom is both superficial and heavy handed. The series’ self referentiality & parody film Scary Movie mean we’ve seen this all before.

Scream is one of the most popular, excruciatingly corny, obnoxiously cheesy, obviously Gen-Z, and top movies to kick-off 2022! This successful re-imagining of the Scream really stays true to the original story and amps the scare game to its core. Ghostface is back and twice is scarier than ever! A silent but also a pretty deadly killer! Generally positive reception goes to the direction, scares, humor, action, and the cast performances (particularly of Barrera, Quaid, Ortega, and Arquette)!!!!
