A fun but overrated 80s movie that made a lot of careers. The highlights are the soundtrack, flight sequences, rants by superior officers, and STYLE baby. The love story is a weak point, and many of the characters are unlikeable. A few cringe moments that were wisely not reprised the sequel. The enemy fighters don’t have any real bearing on the story and there’s not much tension in the well choreographed fights. They just pop up when needed. It’s essentially a sports film without the MiGs.
