The story is undoubtedly generic, but the effects and world are undoubtedly beautiful. Cameron has always been more a technical innovator than a masterful storyteller, but he deserves credit where credit is due.

Has not aged well at all. A complete waste of time from a story-telling standpoint. If you've seen dances with wolves, you've already seen this movie. Don't waste your time.

A beautiful disaster! James Cameron’s weak script and one dimensional characters make this a film you can skip. The film is nothing sort of original as it clearly borrows from other source material. The problem here is it’s execution. It doesn’t work and thankfully this is no longer king of the box office.

This has a lot of undue backlash, due to its extreme popularity. But like Star Wars for an earlier generation, this film is groundbreaking. Many years later, it is still gorgeous and jaw-dropping. There are pacing issues and some somewhat simple and silly dialogue, but these are problems that the original Star Wars also has in spades. Avatar, simply put, is an objectively better film than Star Wars (not better than Empire, though), and hopefully it will get the respect it is due one day.

Avatar is one of the most popular, visually groundbreaking, truly epic, and very best movies to wrap it all up & seal the bottle for the 2000’s decade in 2009! It’s one of the greatest fantasy movies of all-time & one of the greatest movies ever made in the 2000’s decade! An epic adventure that brings to life a new definition of visual effects. Widespread critical acclaim go to the direction, screenplay, cinematography, editing, score, production, CGI, makeup, visual effects, and the acting!!!!!

This film was never that good. Great effects and the Cameron name didn’t save it from being one of his weaker overall films. I’ve barely watched it again after cinema and that’s rare for me with his work.

More than 10 years later, and Avatar still holds up. Sure, it starts a little slow and there is room for improvement, especially in certain performances. But if James Cameron us great at one thing, it’s storytelling. I don’t care that it’s derivative of other stories. It’s a fascinating tale to explore, and the world of Pandora is so beautiful and imaginative. And it all leads to one hell of a climax. To this day, James Cameron’s Avatar remains one of the best films of the century.

It may not be the most original film but Cameron knows how to make a compelling story that is engrossing and entertaining.
