A New Hope brings audience members to a galaxy far far away. The film brings us to the struggles of Luke wanting to leave his home planet of Tatooine but his uncle wants him to stay and help him for the season. Despite this, Luke doesn’t give up hope and instead decides to become a Jedi like his father when he is given his father’s lightsaber by old Ben Kenobi. A New Hope immerses viewers in a reality like no other. The movie introduces smuggler Han Solo and his trusty friend Chewbacca as they destroy the Death Star and in this action packed masterpiece any movie watcher will enjoy.

This is the film that opened my eyes to film at the very young age of 7 years old. My life was never the same after seeing this groundbreaking film. The reason I give it a 9 is for the pacing. I’ve always felt that there are three scenes that mess with the pacing. 1) The droids journeying through the desert 2) the meeting of Ben Kenobi and 3) the exposition scenes about how to destroy the Death Star. I could go on about this classic film. Unfortunately, I’m running out of room to continue.

What more can be said about one of the most advanced technological marvel of its time? I recall sitting on the edge of my seat in total disbelief when seeing the film for the first (of dozens) time. While the story is classic Hero’s Journey, it’s told in a way never before seen at the time of release.

Ok. I’m gonna get it. I just rewatched this as a whole adult and while it inarguably is a film that change the game on what was possible for this genre when I watch it just as a stand alone film and look at the plot and some of the work in the film, well, I have questions. Some beautiful pictures, some smart character devices and OBVIOUSLY it change the game of the genre but the movie, it’s fine. And I’m not letting go of this Leah/Leia thing. Ep V is where it’s at.

Star Wars was a film that changed the industry forever and was for sure one that changed my view on movies a long time ago. A New Hope is amazing with its use of practical effects and models compared to films full of CGI today. Star Wars will always be my favourite movie franchise full of fun characters and great storylines.

An absolute classic sci-fi adventure movie! The sets, costumes, and soundtrack are phenomenal. And, being Star Wars, the sound design is second to none. Now for the flaws: either version of the movie has its own flaws. The original has some dated effects and the updated version has too many crappy CG effects that are way too distracting. Mark Hamil and Harrison Ford are legends now, but their acting is laughably bad in this film. All in all, a terrific movie with too many distracting quirks.
